Grassroots democracy is a democratic system built from the lowest political unit level with the objective of designing, implementing and sustaining political processes that shift as much decision-making authority as practical to the political activity's lowest unit level be it geographic, social level and / or community. A grassroots movement is one that uses the people in a given county / district, region or community as the basis for a political or social or economic movement. Grassroots movements and organizations use collective action from the local level to effect change at the local, regional, national or international level.

While the world is moving towards democracy, many democratic societies still inhibit movement of grassroots political leaders through the ranks of political hierarchy due to various factors which include political families para-dropping their next generation to key senior positions both in political parties and electoral politics diluting the efficacy of grassroots political movement and rise of true grassroots political leaders through the political hierarchy.

GlobalGrasrootsDemocracy.org supports, in various democracies, political leaders who start their careers at the lowest grassroot levels of democracy and rise through the hierarchy due to their commitment, hard work, passion and determination. It is our desire to support such leaders who also passes the test of clean political activity with resources to fight the political system where leaders are otherwise para-dropped by various vested interest groups.
